Coronavirus: Gangara community rejects relief materials granted to victims of killings in Sokoto

Governor Aminu Waziru Tambuwal the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, former Speaker to House of Representatives in Nigeria, and 2019 election PDP presidential candidate has through his special adviser on media and publicity directed the release of relief materials to families victims of Gangara community killings by notorious Fulani bandits in the region on Wednesday, 1st of this month April. But to his dismay the community leaders in anger rejected the money he granted to the youths of the community and murmurs when he mentions that they should not be on guard to protect themselves. He said: “Karku É—auki doka a hannunku” meaning that they should not take law into their hands.

The governor in his condolence visit also condoles the community members to take heart that the government is doing its best possible to checkmate insecurity in the Sokoto east region. He also urged the people of the community and other communities in the State to avail themselves of the knowledge available about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), which he said is a global pandemic right now.

Gangara Killings: Tambuwal Directs SEMA, Ministry For LG To Provide Relief For Families…Condoles Community, Mobilizes Against COVID-19

Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has directed the state emergency management agency, the ministry for local government and Sabon Birni local government council to work closely with a view to providing relief materials to the families of those killed by unknown gunmen at Gangara village on Wednesday evening.

Gov. Tambuwal who was at Gangara, in the company of security top brass, comprising of army, air force, police, department of state security and civil defense, in the state, had condoled the people of the community over the dastardly killings of its members by about 100 marauders who stormed the area on motorbikes.
During the visit, the first of its kind, by an incumbent governor, to the beleaguered community in its about two decades occasional clash with marauders, the governor pleaded with the people to be patient as “the government is doing its best possible to check insecurity in the area.”

According to him, “government is not unaware or unmindful of the plight of the people here. We are working closely with all the security agencies in the state to ensure that this mayhem does not continue.
“We are aware of the concerted effort of the community to forestall and checkmate the criminal activities of attackers. However, I wish to call on all of you not take the laws into your hands.

“We should all allow the law to take its full course to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book,” the governor admonished.
Gov. Tambuwal prayed for peace and stability in the area, assuring the people that “you are not alone at this time of trial and trepidation.”
Meanwhile, the governor also urged the people of the community to avail themselves of the knowledge available about the Corona virus (COVID-19), “which is a global pandemic right now.”

“You should not be so overwhelmed by the bandits attack and neglect the import of this contagious disease,” he told the people of the community.
He appealed to them to observe the rules of social distancing, use of face mask, personal hygiene and quick report to health authorities of any of the symptoms of the disease to health authorities.
