Historic throwback letter Late Alh. Shehu Shagari sent to Sir Ahmadu Bello

The deceased, First Executive President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari when he was the Minister of Internal Affairs in Nigeria sent this historic letter to Sir Ahmadu Bello(Sardauna of Sokoto) prior to opening ceremony of Sultan Bello Mosque Kaduna in 1962. Muslim leaders and ambassadors sent their acknowledgement, including Jordanian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Kame Alsharif.

Shagari won the Presidential General Election in 1979 under National Party of Nigeria (NPN), which makes him the first Civilian President of Nigeria before he was overthrown by General Muhammadu Buhari’s Military regime in 1983. Shehu Shagari died day before yesterday, 28th December, at National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness at 93 years of age. The selfless statesman left Wives, Children, Grand-children, Great grand-children and Nigerians to mourn him.

The letter reads:

I attach herewith a letter addressed to me by His Excellency Kame Alsharif, the ambassador of the Hashimate Kingdom of Jordan in reply to a letter I sent to him enclosing the pamphlets on the historic opening ceremony of Sultan Bello Mosque which you have directed me to distribute. I have received saveral letters of acknowledgement and appreciation from various Muslims Ambassadors and the interest parties but I thought you may wish to see this one as an example of the very high degree of appreceation and esteem held by our Muslims brothers all over the world for your dedication to the great cause of Islam. May Allah continue to guide you and crown your noble efforts with success.
