A pan-Igbo sociopolitical pressure organisation, the South East Revival Group (SERG) has urged the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi to pick Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate.
The group in a statement on Wednesday signed by its President and National Coordinator, Chief Willy Ezugwu noted that Obi needs a strong politician who is a nationalist and free of any baggage of corruption or other issues.
It added that Nigeria deserves to be led by the best people at all levels if it is to develop and win the war against corruption.
The group urged Obi to avoid any individual who can’t explain the source of his/her wealth.
SERG in the statement, urged “the Presidential candidate of Labour Party to strongly consider Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a Nigerian economist and politician, as his running mate.”
It added that “Nigeria is bigger than any individual and deserves the best of us at the helms of affairs at all levels, especially the office of the President of the Federal Republic.
“For this reason, we encourage Mr. Peter Obi to avoid individuals who have baggages of unresolved corruption allegations as a corrupt leader cannot fight corruption.
“War against corruption should and must begin from the selection of the right candidates for elective political offices.
“For this reason, Mr. Peter Obi must avoid picking a running mate among individuals who cannot explain how they became who they are financially”, the group stated.
It further pointed out that “Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed was a Senator and founder of Baze University Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University Kano.”
