NEDC Begins Training Of Youths For Waste Recycling In Taraba

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), on Monday flagged off a three days training exercise for youths on efficient waste management and practices and A-Z recycling in Taraba.

Mr. Usman Dinshiya, the Taraba State Coordinator North East Development Commission on behalf of the Managing Director/ Chief Executive officer Alhaji. Mohammed Goni Alkali, told the trainees that the exercise was part of NEDC’s steps to ensure job creation for Nigerian youths through effective waste management.

Dinshiya noted that the best way of dealing with waste, both economically and environmentally, was to create ways for recycling them for other purposes.

He said training unemployed youths in such regard would create job opportunities and alleviate poverty among youths, which according to him would become employers of labour in the society.

Waste management is a huge and ever growing industry that has to be analyzed and updated at every point based on the new emergence of threats to technology.

“With government educating the normal people and creating awareness among different sector of the society, setting sufficient budgets and assisting companies and facilities for planning, research and waste management processes , it can help to relax the issues to an extent if not completely eradicated.

“These actions would not only help in protecting our environment, but also help in employment generation and boosting up the economy.

“The fact that waste was not considered a big issue few decades ago, many people had not considered waste management with utmost attention. 

“Presently, waste management, is the big issue to sustainable environment. Hence, it is every ones’ business without class, the government and the citizenry alike in effective waste management in line with sustainable development.

“The North East Development Commission in collaboration with emblematic imprints Nigeria Ltd and the support of Taraba State Government is engaging youths in this training so as to create employment and bring about a clean and sustainable environment,” the state coordinator expressed.

Earlier, Governor Darius Ishaku, represented by the permanent Secretary, Taraba state ministry of Environment, Jonah Febuins commended the NEDC for the move.

Febuins said the idea would Transform young Tarabans economically and address the environmental challenges of waste through recycling for economic benefits.
