HausaToday looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Wednesday, 6th July, 2022.

The PUNCH: The COVID-19 infections in the country have risen by 67 per cent, the latest figures obtained by The PUNCH have shown. The data also revealed that there was a 390.4 per cent increase in testing, which has led to an increase in the report of positive cases.


The Guardian: It is still uncertain times in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as delay in reconciling post-convention crisis has affected preparation for Osun State governorship election and the 2023 general elections. The absence of the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and national chairman, Prof. Iyorchia Ayu, is slowing reconciliation moves.


Vanguard: As Nigerians  continue to groan  nder the severe impact of the lingering fuel scarcity, amid raging controversy over huge subsidy costs, investigations revealed a combination of higher oil prices, skyrocketing logistics costs and corruption led to a gargantuan 989 per cent increase in the average monthly fuel subsidy cost in seven years.


This Day: A few people died yesterday, while two others sustained minor injuries, when bandits attacked the advance team of security guards, protocol and media officers, ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Sallah trip to his hometown in Daura, Katsina State. The presidency has since described the dastardly act as a sad and unwelcome development.


The Nation: There is no end in sight to the festering crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the choice of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate by the presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Yesterday, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike ruled out the possibility of a one-on-one meeting with the presidential flagbearer.


Daily Trust: An advance team of President Muhammadu Buhari to Katsina State ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations was yesterday attacked by terrorists who have been terrorising people in the state and environs for long.
