The PUNCH: The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, are mulling over the option of engaging the presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in talks on how to work together to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress. Obi, who is a former governor of Anambra State and Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election, and Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, were members of the PDP before they defected to their respective parties to actualise their presidential ambitions.
The Guardian: As political parties conclude their presidential primaries ahead of the 2023 general election, efforts by Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) has reached a fever pitch. From Lagos to Ogun, Oyo, Enugu and other states of the federation, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are battling to cope with the number of people who turn out daily to either collect their PVCs or be registered by the Commission
The Nation: In furtherance of his reconciliatory initiative, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday reached out to four more of his rivals in Tuesday’s primaries to ensure the party goes into the 2023 election as a united family. Tinubu visited former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi and former Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio, 24 hours after a similar visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Saturday Independent: Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Friday, debunked claims that he paid tribute to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu. A tribute titled, ‘Prof Wole Soyinka’s tribute to Sen Asiwaju Tinubu’ purportedly written by Soyinka eulogising Tinubu on his political accomplishments had gone viral on various WhatsApp platforms shortly after he emerged the presidential flagbearer of the APC
