The PUNCH: The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday began moves to pick its consensus candidate with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), explaining qualities the party’s flag bearer in the 2023 presidential election must possess. Buhari, who said this during his meeting with the 23 APC governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, advised the party to think of the right candidate that possessed the qualities he outlined.


The Guardian: Just as it was in the days leading to the national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which saw Senator Abdullahi Adamu emerge as the national chairman in March, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, met with the 22 APC governors, where he announced to them he would once again, provide leadership ahead of the party’s presidential primary next Monday.


Vanguard: President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, took the first step towards selecting his successor. He asked Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at their much-postponed meeting to allow him choose his successor.


This Day: Elder statesman and leader of the Ijaw nation, Chief Edwin Clark, has described the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, as a thoughtless and partial leader and therefore, asked him to resign his position as a matter of urgency.


The Nation: The crack in the National Working Committee (NWC) of the  All Progressives Congress (APC)  widened yesterday. Two top members accused National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu of rendering the administrative organ of the ruling party redundant.


Daily Trust: President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday dropped a bombshell when he told the governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to allow him to make a choice for his successor. The president met the governors ahead of the presidential primary election fixed for June 6, 7 and 8.
