Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday reportedly received no fewer than two thousand new members who defected from the nation’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors, HausaToday learnt, were received into the opposition camp from the Dass Local Government Area of the state.
Reacting to the development, the PDP Chairman of Dass local government, Alhaji Shatima Sani Korau, commended the politicians for taking the bold step ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Korau who spoke at the official commissioning ceremony of the Bundilin Dutse PDP office in Bundot ward described PDP as one united powerful political party in Africa.
He admonished both old and the new members to give their maximum support to ensure the party’s victory in the coming election as well as to maintain its status for the development of the local government, state, and the nation at large.
This is as Korau also assured the decampees of his council’s readiness to carry everybody along irrespective of any differences.
HausaToday understands that the new members were immediately issued membership cards of the PDP to enable them to participate fully in the party affairs.
On his part, PDP Northeast Zonal Auditor, Hon. Ibrahim Usman Dankade, described the event as a great opportunity for the party to conveniently face the future challenge.
He urged the people of Dass to continue supporting the PDP’s transformation efforts. In his goodwill message, the Deputy Chairman of the Dass Local Government Area, Hon. Ambassador Prince Noah (Wadata) Danmalikin Bundot, described the move as a clear indication of the party’s victory ahead of 2023.
Prince Noah said since the inception of democracy in 1999, Dass has never found itself in the opposition until recently due to some reasons which he said have been politically resolved, which informed the mass return of the members to the PDP.
While congratulating the decampees for taking the right step, Noah said that the PDP remains the only hope for Nigerians.
