A report have emerged claiming that some Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have resolved to back the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
HausaToday reports that the PDP has been in crisis following the refusal of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign, a demand made by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to back Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.
Also, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Olabode George, among others, have called for Ayu’s removal and replacement by a southerner.
However, the PDP chairman has refused to quit, stressing that he was elected to lead the party for four years and he intends doing that.
Sources have now told Vanguard that some PDP governors and leaders are working for the APC presidential candidate.
According to the source, the PDP governors and leaders have pledged to support Tinubu’s candidacy if the PDP crisis continues.
A source, familiar with the workings of the APC, confirmed the possible alliance with Tinubu, saying “of course, it is true.”
The source said: “From the way the PDP is handling its crisis, you should know that not all the PDP governors will support Atiku. It is clear and glaring.”
But an ally of the former vice-president, who spoke on condition of anonymity, dismissed the speculation, saying “that is not true; there is no truth in that at all.”
