PDP Reacts As APC Kicks Against Use Of BVAS In 2023 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for kicking against the proposed use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the 2023 general elections.

HausaToday earlier reported that the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, had expressed doubt that the planned use of BVAS and other technology for the transmission of election results would produce a fair and credible outcome in the 2023 elections.

Adamu made this known when he received a delegation from the Commonwealth Election Observation Mission in his office at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

The APC chairman asserted that Nigeria is not ripe for the use of such technology, adding that network coverage and other issues are still sources of concern for the ruling party.

Reacting to APC’s concern, PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, said the ruling party was already jittery knowing that the use of technology would reduce its chances of rigging the 2023 polls.

He also berated Adamu for questioning the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transmit the 2023 results in real time from polling units to a central server.

Ologunagba claimed that the ruling party does not want the 2023 polls to be credible, free, and fair, saying that the PDP is behind INEC in the use of BVAS and planned transmission of results in real time.

In a chat with The Punch, he said: “The APC knows they stand no chance of winning elections in this country if the process is transparent. At a time the whole world is commending INEC, the APC national chairman is expressing doubt. What does that tell you? The ruling party does not want the 2023 polls to be credible, free, and fair. The PDP is fully behind INEC in the use of BVAS and planned transmission of results in real-time.

“BVAS was used in Ekiti and Osun states and the process was adjudged to be credible. INEC has improved over the years. We enjoin every political party to support the commission in its mandate of delivering credible elections to the country in 2023 and beyond.”
